Letterkenny
I have to admit that I was more then just a little apprehensive about moving
to Ireland, let alone a place called Letterkenny in Co Donegal. I stepped out of my nice little American box, dragged my family across the Big Pond we call the Atlantic Ocean to a place I’ve never been to. I’ve never stepped foot out of my country before, so what a giant leap of faith. What I knew of Ireland was thatched cottages, pubs with cozy fire- places, donkey carts, rolling green hills, excellent musicians, and Yeats. What I learned since I stepped off the plane on that cool August morning is that Ireland not just a land rich in history, culture, and majestic landscapes. Ireland is a state of mind - it is about slowing down, taking a deep breath, and enjoying each moment as they come. Coming from America, I realise that working is a means to an end, not an end in itself. You work to live, not live to work.
My children have settled into school quite well. Both have started talking with the Donegal accent and have
been learning Irish. I couldn’t be more pleased with the way things have worked out. From my point of view, Donegal is an excellent place to raise a family.
On Letterkenny itself, I’ll say these two words: My Home.
